Mackay Isaac Region Shines at Queensland Tourism Awards

The Mackay Isaac region was celebrated in full force at the Queensland Tourism Awards on Friday night, with local operators, businesses, and events gaining state-wide recognition for their commitment to excellence in tourism.

The Queensland Tourism Awards are the pinnacle of excellence in our state’s tourism industry, celebrating outstanding accomplishments and honouring the finest individuals, businesses, and events across Queensland.

Mackay Isaac Tourism's CEO, Jeff Stewart-Harris, said he was proud to witness the Mackay Isaac region shine at the prestigious black-tie event.

“I had the privilege of attending the Queensland Tourism Awards on Friday night alongside some of our local operators, businesses, and stakeholders, and it was fantastic to see our region represented,” said Mr. Stewart-Harris.

“It’s a real testament to the exceptional talent and hard work of our local tourism community here in the Mackay Isaac region.

“The dedication and passion of our operators is inspiring and vital to driving visitation to our region.

“Recognition at this level is anticipated to have a lasting impact on tourism across the Mackay Isaac region, with the exposure bringing new opportunities to attract visitors from across Queensland and beyond, furthering the economic and social benefits tourism brings to the local community.”

In the crowd amongst over 1000 attendees were owner of Oh Deere Farm Stay Karinda Anderson and her husband who were just ecstatic at the achievement.

“Receiving Bronze is an incredible honour and a reflection of our dedication to providing visitors with a genuine, memorable farm stay experience”, said Mrs Anderson.

“This award highlights our commitment to sustainable tourism and authentic storytelling, and we’re thrilled to share this success with our team and community.

“We look forward to welcoming even more visitors to the Mackay Isaac region into the future”.

Celebrating from home in Mackay was Property Manager of the Windmill Motel & Events Centre Leanne Green.

“We are incredibly honoured to be nominated for the Queensland Tourism Awards”, Ms Green said.

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and passion of our team, who strive every day to provide exceptional experiences for our guests.

“Being acknowledged among so many outstanding tourism operators is both humbling and inspiring.

The already award-winning and family-friendly St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend is set in the breathtaking beauty of the Croyden Range and the serene wetlands.

Isaac Regional Council Mayor Kelly Vea Vea said the prestigious recognition highlights the strong relationships between community and council to promoting a sustainable tourism event.

“Winning the Bronze at the Queensland Tourism Awards is a testament to the hardworking volunteers, our valued partners and the entire Isaac team.

“Their commitment has brought to life an event that immerses visitors in the natural beauty and cultural richness of the St Lawrence Wetlands.

“This is our second Queensland Tourism award for the St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend, and it’s a deeply proud moment for the entire Mackay Isaac region,” Mayor Kelly said.

Set along the picturesque coastline on Yuwibara Country in Cape Hillsborough, Between The Tides brings together Indigenous artists, complimented by cultural immersive experiences provided by Traditional Owners.

CEQ of Queensland Music Festivals Daryl Raven was humbled by the announcement at the Queensland Tourism Awards.

“We are incredibly honoured to have Between The Tides recognised at the Queensland Tourism Awards in the Cultural Tourism category, Mr. Raven said.

“This nomination is a tribute to our team’s hard work and passion for showcasing the Mackay Region's natural beauty and vibrant culture.

“We would like to especially thank the Yuwi people, the traditional custodians of the region, for sharing their stories and heritage, which were central to this project.

“I’d also like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Greg Williamson for his continued support and commitment to fostering a thriving tourism landscape in Mackay.”

The Mackay Isaac Tourism board and team extend their congratulations to all entrants, whose passion and innovation continue to elevate the region’s tourism offerings.
