New Destination Events Campaign Brings Energy and Excitement to Mackay Isaac
The Mackay Isaac Region is kicking off 2025 with a bold new destination events campaign, "Keep Up," designed to inspire visitors to dive into the region’s endless adventures, vibrant events, and awe-inspiring natural wonders.
Launched by Mackay Isaac Tourism, "Keep Up" invites travellers of all ages to embrace the momentum of discovery, exploration, and connection in the Mackay Isaac Region.
Mackay Isaac Tourism CEO Jeff Stewart-Harris said the region’s events calendar rivals that of neighbouring destinations, making it the perfect time to launch a major events-focused campaign.
“Events provide the opportunity for engagement with a broad audience who have the propensity to stay in region for longer or to visit in non-peak periods”, Mr Stewart-Harris said.
“‘Keep Up’ challenges travellers to match the vibrant rhythm of Mackay Isaac, where there’s always something new to explore.
“From national sporting events like Mackay Marina Run and Fox Superflow to cultural festivals like the Mackay Festival of Arts and St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend, this campaign highlights the pioneering spirit that defines our region.”
Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson said the Mackay region was the perfect place to plan your unique adventure.
“Whether you’re looking for an epic adventure or a relaxing escape, Mackay has it all,” Mayor Williamson said.
“You can hike our ancient rainforests, mountain bike down our world class trails, snorkel our sparkling reef, visit our stunning islands or attend one of our many sporting and cultural events,” he said.
“There is something for everyone here, and we invite locals and visitors alike to discover Mackay for themselves.”
Isaac Regional Councillor Viv Coleman said the Isaac region’s tourism offers the perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion, making it an ideal destination for both short getaways and extended holidays.
“It’s special living in our region and having the excitement of planning those spontaneous getaways,” Cr Coleman said.
“We kicked things off over the weekend with the vibrant energy of the Moranbah Australia Day Triathlon. It is with great pride that we host Australia's top rodeo at the Nebo Rodeo in May.
“Don't miss out on the Nebo Hotel Street Party, which many say is the best street party in the west. And of course, we can't wait for the popular St Lawrence Wetlands Weekend in June, especially with the anticipated return of Costa Georgiadis.”
In the year ending June 2024, the Mackay Isaac Region welcomed 1.2 million overnight visitors, a 3.7% increase, which includes a doubling in leisure visitation (up 19.3%) since 2019, with spending continuing to surge over the same period to $803.1 million (up 51.3%).
“What’s especially exciting is the strong growth in holiday visitors, complementing our traditionally robust business visitor sector,” Mr. Stewart-Harris added.
“This campaign is about momentum. We want travellers to feel the thrill of what’s next, encouraging them to stay longer and keep discovering the incredible moments that make Mackay Isaac unforgettable.
“Whether you’re cheering at a sports event, hiking through lush rainforest trails, or dancing the night away at a festival, the “Keep Up” campaign captures the essence of what makes our region so special.”
