Explore Rainforest to Reef in our Backyard
Mackay Tourism and Tourism Whitsundays have partnered to produce a new itinerary called ‘Rainforest to Reef’, that showcases the best of Mackay and The Whitsundays.
Released today, the four-day itinerary encourages visitors to explore lush rainforests, abundant wildlife, pristine beaches and tropical island paradises.
Oskar Krobath, owner of Platypus Lodge Restaurant, said Eungella has become a must visit destination for travellers.
“Eungella National Park is essential for travellers looking for that nature reserved experience as it offers so much to see and do,” he said.
“Within Eungella National Park you have some of Australia’s best platypus viewing areas, and over 20km of walking tracks that weave through the rainforest to explore.”
Mr Krobath continued, “the nearby Finch Hatton Gorge and Pioneer Valley are also home to spectacular waterfalls, swimming holes and some of the countries best barramundi and sooty grunter fishing.”
“It’s fantastic to see Mackay Tourism and Tourism Whitsundays partnering to produce itineraries like ‘Rainforest to Reef’. Together our regions offer the complete nature-based holiday, and the chance to experience so much native wildlife and different destinations,” said Mr Krobath.

Mackay Tourism General Manager Tas Webber, said the itinerary should prove popular during the busy Easter and winter holiday periods.
“Encompassing world renowned locations including Eungella, Finch Hatton Gorge, Cape Hillsborough, Seaforth’s Net Free Fishing Zone, Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands, the new itinerary is perfect for nature-focused travellers,” he said.
Mr Webber continued, “a lot of our drive visitors are on their way north to the Whitsundays. As a result, Mackay Tourism has partnered with Tourism Whitsundays, to produce an itinerary that encourages visitors to explore the incredible sights and experiences both regions have to offer.”
Mr Webber said locals would also be interested in the new ‘Rainforest to Reef’ itinerary.
“Locals looking for day trip or weekend getaway ideas, will be amazed at the array of spectacular nature experiences on offer in our very own backyard.”
