Isaac Coast Historical Sites and Heritage Locations

Overview

Description

Pride is not reserved for big communities: take tiny Koumala, 50 kilometres south of Mackay. Its war memorial was erected in 1959, the funds raised by public subscription arranged through the Koumala RSL sub-branch.

The white painted concrete obelisk, topped by a small Latin cross, features a bronze plaque with stating its intention: 'in honour of those who made the supreme sacrifice in defence of their country'.

Koumala's memorial honours all who have served in wars. No specific mention is made of WWI. School children planted six trees to represent locals' lives lost in WWII.
