Local Tourism Operators Need Your Vote
Mackay Region locals and visitors to the region, are being encouraged to vote for their favourite tourism experience in the RACQ People’s Choice Tourism Award, part of the Queensland Tourism Awards.
Seven Mackay Region experiences have been nominated and they need your support to bring home the gold.
Cape Hillsborough Nature Tourist Park, Ibis Mackay and The Feathered Nest – Luxury Wildlife Retreat and have all been nominated for RACQ People’s Choice for Accommodation award.
Likewise, the Elton John ‘Once in A Lifetime’ Mackay concert, Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre, Sarina Sugar Shed and The Old Station Teahouse are looking to win the RACQ People’s Choice for Tourism Experience or Service award.
Voting for your favourite Mackay Region tourism experience and accommodation will not only help showcase our region, but also put you in the draw to win a $5,000 RACQ Travel Voucher.
Mackay Tourism General Manager, Tas Webber, is confident Mackay Region locals and visitors would show their support.
“Our region is fortunate to have so many dedicated local tourism operators that showcase our region to visitors from across the world”.
Mr Webber continued “These tourism operators bring joy to thousands of visitors, and employ hundreds of locals, and inject a major contribution into our local economy”.
“Voting for these tourism operators can be your way to thank them, and show the rest of Queensland what makes Mackay such an amazing region” he said.
Speaking of the Elton John ‘Once in a Lifetime Concert, Mackay Regional Council Mayor Greg Williamson said, “There were 5000 visitors, including almost 300 from overseas, and the feedback was great”.
Cr. Williamson continued “Mackay, as a region, was extremely proud we could stage an international concert so professionally”.
Sarina Sugar Shed are also vying for top honours in the RACQ People’s Choice for Tourism Experience or Service award.
“We are thrilled that the Sarina Sugar Shed is in the running for the 2018 RACQ People’s Choice QTA Award category”,Councillor Karen May said
“From humble beginnings to state leader in tourism, Sarina Sugar Shed represented Queensland at the 2017 Australian Tourism Awards in the Excellence in Food Tourism category. The Sarina Sugar Shed is now an iconic tourism attraction in the Mackay region and a QTA Hall of Fame member”
