New Chair for Mackay Tourism
Continued growth for the region’s tourism industry looks set to continue under new leadership, with Mackay Tourism welcoming new Chair, Michele Shea.
Mrs. Shea, has previously served as Director and Deputy Chair of Mackay Tourism, and comes with fifteen years of tourism experience as Owner/Manager of The Old Station Teahouse.
Mrs. Shea is looking forward to representing Mackay’s tourism industry as it continues to evolve as a desired holiday destination and key economic pillar.
“I’m delighted and honoured to have been elected as Chair of Mackay Tourism”, she said.
“The Mackay Region is home to such a vibrant and professional tourism industry, whose hard work has contributed to several achievements, including seven successive quarters of visitation growth and the opening of our beautiful new Sarina Visitor Information Centre”.
Mrs. Shea continued, “I hope that I can contribute to securing the continued growth, prosperity and sustainability of tourism in Mackay, and my tenure as Chair is marked by an increased engagement of our tourism operators with each other and with the organisation”.
Longtime Director of Mackay Tourism, and Owner/Manager of Comfort Resort Blue Pacific, Nick uit den Bogaard, has been elected Deputy Chair.
These appointments come as Mackay says thank you and goodbye to respected outgoing Chair, Rob Porter.
General Manager, Tas Webber, thanked Mr. Porter for his dedication to Mackay’s tourism industry and was looking forward to continued success with new Chair Mrs. Shea.
“Rob’s tenure as Chair of Mackay Tourism coincided with a period of unprecedented success for tourism operators across The Mackay Region” said Mr Webber.
“As an industry, we are grateful for his service”.
Mr Webber continued “Michele brings a wealth of experience that will undoubtedly see tourism continue to flourish and create investment and jobs for the Mackay community.
